What I've Been Up To

Whew! The last couple of weeks have been crazy!

Two weeks ago, I had STAAR EOC retakes. We had three days of testing plus I had to get it packed up and shipped back. As if state testing isn't fun enough, my older son was diagnosed with pneumonia. He had ran fever all week the week before and had been to the doctor on a Thursday to hear, "It's just a virus. It typically last 5-7 days bring him back if he has fever on day 8". Fever ended on day 7. He was fever free for 24 hours, and then the fever was back. Back we went on Tuesday, to find that he had developed pneumonia, and they didn't miss it the first time because they had checked his lungs.

This past week my dad called to tell me he was in the hospital, but fine. I didn't need to come see him. He just wanted me to know. He stayed two nights. They ran a bunch a test and determined he had blacked out because his insulin dosage was too high now that he's lost so much weight. In the middle of that, my younger son had dental surgery. Poor baby has his Grammie's bad teeth. He had anesthesia in the dentist's office, and thankfully doesn't remember anything but going to sleep in daddy's arms and waking up in daddy's arms. He was so brave and cooperative which was amazing because he's our most uncooperative child. His first coherent request when we returned home was for his Ninja Turtle. We spent most of the rest of that day snuggled together on the couch.

Then this past Saturday, we attended the wedding of two of Lo's teachers (and my co-workers). He has been excitedly counting down to this wedding for a while, and talking about it for months. They've both been his teachers for the last two years. They are the sweetest couple and compliment each other so well.

Now I've got to finish getting Lo ready to head to first church camp in the morning. I'm hoping things will slow down a bit this week.

More Target Dollar Spot Finds and Texas Learning Fun Update

I love this time of year at the Target Dollar Spot. Each time I go I find something I need for my classroom.

I am super excited about this chalkboard!!! I can't wait to use it on the first day of school with my boys and my students. I see a parent gift in the future with pictures of the students holding this chalkboard.

How adorable are those jumbo school supplies clips. I'm not quite sure what I will use them for yet. They were so cute I couldn't pass them up.

Those sticky note pads are going to be part of a teacher gift for the boys' teachers. I've got a couple of ideas in mind.

I also snagged two pocket charts. One will display my weekly spelling and sight words. I may use the second pocket chart for Boggle words.

I finally finished updating my Texas Learning Fun unit. The unit has quadrupled in size. The fonts and graphics have been updated. I've added a lesson plan and activities for teaching about Stephen F. Austin. Included is a Texas Symbols fact book that has a student and teacher version with suggested shared reading activities as well as other activities. I also aligned this unit with the Social Studies and ELA TEKS for K-2nd grade.

Make sure to download the updated file if you already own this. This unit will be on sale for 50% off until Monday evening. You can purchase it here

TpT Seller Challenge: Make Your Masterpiece

Week three of the TpT Seller Challenge had us making a new product, and swapping with another seller to get feedback. I loved swapping. It's always good have a second pair of eyes look over things. I had two products I was working on that I decided to finish up for this challenge.

The first product is a freebie that could be used as a literacy station or guided practice activity. I'll use it as guided practice, and then move it to an early finisher activity or literacy station. If you are a Texas teacher, it is TEKS aligned. The TEKS are on the color and black and white covers.

You can download Synonyms Are Oh So Sweet! here.

My second product is a sight word game. Erin Bradley has this adorable chevron mugs and donuts clip art that I just had to have. I also wanted to make a sight word game that I could use with my students and my boys to practice our words at home.

Oh Donuts! A Sight Word Game is on sale for 50% off for 48 hours. You can purchase it here.

The Monthly Top Ten: TV Shows

I'm excited to be linking up with Hailey at The Third Grade Nest for her new monthly link up, The Monthly Top Ten! This month is your top ten favorite TV shows to watch while planning, grading, blogging, or creating. We got rid of cable over a year ago, so I watch shows on Netflix or Hulu.

It's pretty obvious from my list I like to watch dramas and teen shows. One Tree Hill will probably always be my absolute favorite. We named our youngest son Lucas after the character, Lucas Scott.

Click below to link up and share your top ten favorite shows.

Currently July 2015

It's been quite awhile, but I'm linking up with Farley for July Currently.

Listening:
I'm listening to Ben-10. My Logan is sick, so I'm letting him watch whatever he wants. Summertime sickness is no fun. This is day three with fever, so we're headed to the doctor tomorrow.

Loving:
Our church takes a break from Wednesday night activities in July because we have camps and mission trips. I love being with our church family, but I'm also thankful to stay at home and have a movie night.

Thinking:
I'm the STAAR (Texas state assessment) coordinator for my K-11 school, so I'm getting reading for high school EOC retakes next week. I'm ready to be done with STAAR for awhile.

Wanting:
I really want to visit my sweet nieces (20 months and 11 months) and go swimming with them, but with a sick boy, we're going to have put off our visit to Aunt Calli's a little bit longer.

Needing:
I've created some new materials for back to school, but I haven't been able to print and laminate because we're all out of ink at home. I'm hoping the Mister is going to buy me some ink soon.

All Star At:
I'm an all star at listening to my friends and family and being the voice of reason. Everyone wants to be heard. Most of the time that is all that is needed, but when they need some advice, I'm willing to give them a nudge in the right direction.

I can tell other people all day long what they are an all star at, but I have such a hard time talking about myself like that. Is that a teacher thing? Or just me?

To share your Currently July, link up with Farley below.
